A New Voice in Children’s Literature
Rachel Yung-Hsin Wang ’19GS is the 2017 recipient of the LEE & LOW… and Friends Scholarship, created through a partnership with Simmons in 2015 to provide opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to participate in the university’s children’s literature graduate program.
“I am honored by this award and grateful for the recognition of my potential to provide a new perspective to children’s literature,” said Wang. She moved from Taiwan to Massachusetts as a child and recently relocated to Amherst, MA, after living in Asia-Pacific countries for many years. She is in Simmons’ Writing for Children M.F.A. program at the Eric Carle Museum in Amherst.
“Ms. Wang is a highly accomplished professional who brings a wealth of experience and a unique point of view to the program,” said Cathyrn Mercier, director of the Center for the Study of Children’s Literature at Simmons.
“We are excited to support new talent like Ms. Wang through this scholarship,” said Jason Low, publisher of LEE & LOW BOOKS.
